Design Considerations

A book cover redesign for Murray Bail’s novel Eucalyptus was designed to create emotional connections and layers of detail – giving small clues to the stories which unfold, including the growth and revealing of character as well as hinting at a unique love story.

The book has an important connection to Australian landscape, earth and family which is suggested through the illustrations, use of soft, earthy colour and delicate but bold style, reflective of the character’s personalities within the story.
